Bebo turns FriendFeed December 10, 2008

My favourite social network, Bebo, has introduced a new feature.

I think it’s aiming to become more like FriendFeed, because you can now hook up email (from AOL, Yahoo! and GMail), Twitter feeds, Flickr photos, and soon, AIM, del.icio.us, and YouTube. However, still no RSS feed for your bebo stream, but maybe that will change soon.

Check out the official announcement below.

indieKarma shutting down? October 16, 2008

I blogged about indieKarma over a year ago, the micropayment services that allows surfers to give tiny donations to their favourite websites – I was honest in saying it’s kind gimmicky, but could be an awesome concept if it took off.

Bad news? It never took off. Here’s the email I got just now from indieKarma.

At the end of October indiekarma will be shutting down.

We built a nice little application that we hopped would become a functioning micropayment solution, and we failed. We tried – we had bold ideas – we just couldn’t make it work.

It then goes on to advise users to remove the code from pages that are using it, and mentions how the domain name, code, and patents will be for sale.

It’s a shame really, indieKarma could have been a cool concept, but now it’s closing down, anyone fancy buying it and doing it up?

MSN: A white box under DP? June 13, 2008

I fire up MSN as usual, and notice something strange.

A white box is appearing under some of my friend’s Display Pictures, but not others.
It doesn’t do anything when clicked, there are no options, and it just sits there next to the webcam and option buttons.

What could it be? A status box? A new feature? A secondary DP?
I have no idea. Maybe readers or Mess.be can throw some light on it.

Update: Aaron_S has pointed out that it’s an office icon in the 9.0 beta. That still leaves the question, what’s it doing in the current build? What is it’s function?

Update 2: Microsoft say it’s just a bug [http://messengersays.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!5B410F7FD930829E!37203.entry]

In Anime news, Viz Media have licensed the Bleach movie, Memories of Nobody.

So, the first Bleach film will be dubbed and is hitting our cinemas.
Good or Bad? I’d go with subtitles.

Amazon has had a makeover. As well as having a change of layout, the colour scheme is slightly different too.

What do you all think? It confuses me a little, I actually can’t find my wishlist :S

Yup, that’s right, iMac’s have been invading hotels.

So what does this mean – is it a mere amenity, or marketing? You decide, either way, it’s useful to have.

Did Plaxo get sold? February 8, 2008

I’m a hardcore Plaxo fan, so is the rumour true?

Did Google buy it? Sure, I’m a little more comfortable with this than *cough* Micro$oft buying Yahoo! *cough*, but why? Does Google want to be the online hub? Will Plaxo change drastically? I hope not, I like it the way it is.

Micro$oft to buy Yahoo!? February 1, 2008

Is Micro$oft going to buy Yahoo!? Dang, this article is gonna be grammatically difficult…

I think M$ is empire building – Google has done it, so why does it seem more ominous when it’s Micro$oft? Probably because Yahoo! itself is a large internet company, but will the sale actually happen?

M$ wants to pay $44.6bn in cash and shares for Yahoo!, which itself has been struggling in recent years against the other net giants, but what will Micro$oft actually DO with it?

Guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

Google Knol – A googol of knowledge? December 15, 2007

Google are opening up a user created knowledge base, on every subject, and they won’t edit the contributions in any way. Anybody can post to it, but I get the distinct feeling that this is going to be a Wikipedia competitor?
